The general purpose of the local Veterans Treatment Court is to:
“Through a combination of structured support, healthcare, and other social service resources provided by the Department of Veterans Affairs and Texas Veterans Commission, we can expect to see a reduction in criminal behavior and an increase in services provided for veterans.
Veterans Treatment Court Participants Receive Assistance with accessing VA Benefits Including:
Tremendous savings in service members' lives, their family turmoil, and the reduction of recommits to the judicial system will be derived from this simple Court initiated service. Due to the tremendous demand on the VA assets the court needs to be instituted immediately. The applicants must demonstrate their medical need because of combat situations which as we all know are well documented. The court would deal with misdemeanors, which means many veterans issues could be caught in the initial stages and prevent disastrous results. Other Veterans Services overlook many of these Veterans. So, this avenue provides the care they need.
The funding and staffing are provided by grants given by the State and other agencies - not Brazos County.
Please contact the Commissioners Court members and encourage them to approve this Veterans Treatment Court, now, to allow Veterans the proper care they have earned.
